101 Facial Care

Daily Facial Care

1. Wash your face. If you wear makeup, you may need to cleanse twice at night. First, remove your makeup with cleansing oil or micellar water. Follow up with a full-face gentle cleanse. Morning rinse your face with water and rub a small amount of gentle cleanser between clean palms. Massage face wash all over your face and rinse.

2. Apply toner. Apply after cleansing your face and before everything else. Pour a few drops of toner into your palms or a cotton pad and gently swipe onto your face.

3. Apply serum. Morning is a great time to use a serum with antioxidants—like a brightening vitamin C serum—because they protect your skin from free radicals you’ll encounter throughout the day. Nighttime is a good time to use a serum with hyaluronic acid, which keeps your skin from drying out at night.

4. Apply oil. If you use a face oil, make sure to apply it after your other skin-care products since nothing else will be able to penetrate the oil.

5. Apply eye cream. Eye creams tend to be thinner than face moisturizers so only use your eye cream under your eyes.

6. Moisturize. Moisturizer both hydrates skin and locks in all the other layers of product you’ve applied. Moisturizer also helps protect your skin and acts as a barrier.

7. Apply sunscreen. It may be the last step, but nearly any dermatologist will tell you that sun protection is the most important part of any skin-care regimen. Protecting your skin from UV rays can prevent skin cancer, discolouration and signs of aging. If your moisturizer doesn’t contain SPF, you still need to wear sunscreen. For chemical sunscreens, wait 20 minutes before going outside for the sunscreen to be effective. Look for broad-spectrum SPF, meaning that your sunscreen protects from both UVA and UVB radiation.

Weekly Facial Care

2. Apply toner. Apply after cleansing your face and before everything else. Pour a few drops of toner into your palms or a cotton pad and gently swipe onto your face.

3. Exfoliation. A gentle exfoliating peel solution or a gentle scrub can be applied with cotton round pads. Renew and Reveal balanced and more luminous complexion with one to two times a week.

4. Mask. The right mask is not just an indulgent treat — it can also tackle key skin concerns and conditions, from dryness and dehydration to large pores and acne. We recommend adding a face mask to your skin care routine once or twice a week. Use a cherry size amount and apply evenly on the face and neck. Most masks can be kept on for five to 10 minutes, but the duration can vary from mask to mask. Some face masks act quickly and can be removed after a short period of time; others can be left on as an overnight treatment to deeply hydrate your skin while you sleep. We always advise reviewing the label directions to apply your particular product so you know just the right time to remove it.

2. Sun Damage Contributes To Aging And Pigmentation

UVA Rays

UVA rays account for up to 95 percent of the UV radiation that reaches the Earth’s surface. They are present with equal intensity throughout the day and penetrate the skin more deeply than UVB rays. This type of radiation plays a key role in photoaging: It alters the DNA of cells in the dermis, causing damage to structural proteins like collagen and elastin. With a weakened structure, the skin begins to sag and develop fine lines and wrinkles.

UVB Rays

UVB rays cause damage in the skin’s more superficial layers and are responsible for skin reddening and sunburn. They are also more closely linked with the development of skin cancer. The intensity of UVB rays varies by season, location and time of day. These rays are at peak intensity between 10AM and 4PM from April to October but have the potential to damage skin year-round. Unlike UVA rays, they cannot pass through glass and will reflect back towards the skin, hitting it twice, causing more damage.

Where your sun protection PLEASE!

Sunburns also cause long-lasting damage to the skin. Sunburns contribute to premature aging in the form of fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin and sun spots. They also play a major role in the development of skin cancer. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, the risk for melanoma doubles if you have had more than five sunburns, and one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70.

AMY Campbell breaks down how

to get a perfect summer

sun-kissed glow with makeup.

Pro Makeup Artist Amy Campbell breaks down how to achieve the perfect summer sun-kissed glow with makeup with her model Katie Walter of Stray Management.

Amy Campbell is a talented professional makeup artist who specializes in bridal makeup with a focus on flawless skin and enhanced features.

Here are her key points on how she achieves a soft, sun-kissed glow with makeup:

Eyes:

Apply Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise Cream Eyeshadow in Champagne on the inner portion of the eye.

Next, sweep powder from the Patrick Ta Major Sculpt Crème Contour & Powder Bronzer Duo in She’s Bronzed in and above the crease. Tap additional bronzer on the outer corner to deepen the colour.

To keep the eye soft, use a liner brush and a dark brown eye shadow to line the eye with a slight wing.

Finishing off the eyes by applying the same Patrick Ta bronzer from the eyelids underneath the eye. Follow-up with mascara.

Skin:

Start with the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter on the high points of the face and blended with a foundation brush.

Push a radiant foundation like Face Atelier Ultra Foundation into the skin with a brush, and then bounce a beauty sponge on the skin to really create that flawless, skin-like coverage.

Now blend Patrick Ta Major Sculpt Crème Contour & Powder Bronzer Duo in She’s Bronzed cream all the way along the hairline, along the cheekbones, and along the jawline.

Apply Dior Backstage Concealer in 1-2 shade lighter than skin tone along the sides of the nose, centre of the forehead, a tiny bit down the centre of the nose, and centre of the chin and blend with the beauty sponge.

To set, apply a thin layer of setting powder all over the face.

Dust powder bronzer over the areas with cream bronzer, down the sides of the nose, and down the neck and onto the chest. Follow that with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette, Volume II.

Use Patrick Ta Major Headlines Double-Take Crème & Powder Blush in She’s Blushing powder on the cheeks to mimic sun-flushed cheeks and then gently bounced the cream blush over top.

Sweep a highlighter like Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette on the tops of the cheekbones, top of the upper lip, tip of the nose, and up the bridge of the nose.

Lips:

Line and fill the lips with Make Up Forever Artist Color Pencil in Wherever Walnut and top with Makeup by Mario MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serum in Bronze Glow.

Final Touches:

Apply NUDA Body Shimmer all over chest and shoulders.

Finish with Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray and good to glow, baby!
